DD isn't feeling well and is starting to get a rash. Dr Google suggests either hand foot & mouth or chicken pox, and I'm hoping for something else. Anyone have experience with either? Anyone have another idea.
They recently combined our Express Care and our ER, so now you have to pay the ER premium for Expess Care... Annoying since it's way higher. I'm hoping we can hold off for the dr tomorrow.
Update: Dr. squeezed us in. Def Hand Foot & Mouth. At least the fever broke last night, so she's feeling a bit better. The worst part is that she wants to eat, but it hurts to swallow, so she just ends up crying.
Ainsley had hand, foot and mouth, but she didn't have quite that many sores from the looks of it. Unfortunately, they were mostly in her mouth. Does she have a fever? Is she eating? Ainsley never got the high fever they are supposed to get, but she did quit eating for about five days. It was awful. If she seems like she is in pain, I would alternate Tylenol and Motrin to keep her comfortable. Whatever it is, I hope she feels better!
She does have a fever - it has been around 101 when the Tylenol wears off. I think there are some sores in her mouth too, but it's hard to tell exactly. If she's feeling ok from the meds, she'll eat some.
Well, if it is hand, foot and mouth, about all you can do is keep her comfortable and hydrated. If she does have sores in her mouth, the doctor told me the best thing to feed her was yogurt or ice cream because it will coat the sores and feel good to her because it is cold.
My LO had hand foot mouth last summer and that sounds like what she's got. I think it goes around in summer for some reason. Ugh! He never got a rash that bad, but it was still pretty awful. Like PP said, just keep her comfortable and hydrated. A long as the rash doesn't get crazy and the fever stays under control, I'd wait to see your regular doc (and avoid that ER fee!). Hope she feels better!
That looks like hand, foot, and mouth. If you see purple dots on the roof of her mouth then it is HFM. DD has it for the second time and it lasts about 7-10 days. It is super contagious and going around her daycare. There are many different strains and that is why I think she got it twice and this second strain seemed to cause a lot more sores than last time. Like pp said, all you can really do is keep them comfortable with tylenol and advil. Also, it causes a painful sore throat so it makes it really hard to get them to eat anything.
Dd just got over that a few weeks ago, dr said in the summer it goes around like wildfire! Good thing is dd won't get it again, it's usually a one time deal. My dd didn't have it that bad though, she only had a few blisters on her feet and I'm sure a few in her mouth because she really didn't eat,but that was just for a day. She had a pretty mild case, your lo looks like she has it bad poor thing hope she recovers quickly!
DD just had it last week. Today was her first day back at daycare since Tuesday, and her teacher said more than half the class had it. She had a 101-102 fever for 2 days, then the rash - nothing in her mouth, but hands/feet/thighs were covered. Apparently it can spread to the diaper area too. She was back to her old self in 3-4 days. Good luck!
Re: Dr Google *Update*
Did she get the chicken pox vaccine? Even though they get two doses my understanding is that they are pretty much protected after the first.
