My DH and I used to have squabbles about little things here and that that I would like one way and he would like another (i.e. chores, eating healthier, date night activities, quantity versus quality time, etc). So for Christmas he gave me a coupon book full of seriously well thought out cards: 3 extra birthdays, "you're right, no questions asked", take over any chore of your choice, homemade dinner of your choice, date night of your choice... You get the idea! All the little things we'd squabble about, all neatly drawn up with little clip arts and construction paper. I really and truly love gifts that are personal and thoughtful instead of costly and flashy. I've redeemed a couple, sparingly here and there, and the best part is he is actually excited when I do! I literally teared up when I started reading through them (you could see the time and thought he had put into it). For me, this was one of the most romantic things he has ever done, and I keep them on my nightstand to see before I go to bed each night.

When my (then boyfriend, now hubby) and I were celebrating our first Valentine's Day together, we were having a simple candle lit dinner in my parents dining room..how romantic right? All of a sudden he said he had something for me and pulled out a small tape recorder. He then proceeded to tell me that he had been recording messages to me ever since our first date (6 months prior to that). I cried as I listened to the tape of him telling me after various dates how much fun he'd had or even funnier were the times he would take and say I just want to say I love you but you are here right now and just going to the bathroom quick so I gotta go!
It was about the coolest thing I'd ever received! UNFORTUNATELY after a move, the tape ended up going through the washer I cried so much but it was great to have it at all!
My DH (when he was still my BF) planned a super special V Day for us. Back story- I am NOT a fan of V Day..like at all! So I had told him not to do anything special. We were still in University and not making a lot of money so he invited me over to his parents house (ha ha!)
We were in his room and he tells me to close my eyes. I hear random weird noises and when he tells me to open them he's standing beside this huge gift bag. Each thing in the bag was wrapped individually and in order to how I had to open them. The first thing I open was a bag of carrots. The second, 2 huge steaks. The third (and funniest) the biggest potato I have ever seen. The fourth, a heart shaped cake. The fifth a loaf of bread. and Sixth a jar of peanut butter.
My fiance knew I was having a hard time with turning 35. I just felt "old" and not myself. Every other birthday I was completely fine, but not this one. He told me when I got off work, that we were going to dinner. He said to wear something nice, but bring a change of casual clothes. Confused, I did as instructed and showed up to dinner to see he had planned a SURPRISE PARTY for me with all my family and friends there! I about cried I was so happy!
We then changed into more casual clothes, and since I am almost a 4th of July baby, he took me to a special spot downtown upclose and front row to the firework show! He kissed me and told me how much he loved his "little firecracker" and that he loves me more than anything. He then slipped a beautiful necklace around my neck during the grande finale.
My DH has organised a party on the roof of our house. At that time we were renting an appartment in a 9-store building, so the view was also quite nice. As a present I got a certificate for rope-jumping! I think this was the most romantic thing I have ever been treated to, so I feel very thankful even after 4 years have passed!
My husband and I decided to get married while he was deployed to Iraq so there wasn't much fun stuff surrounding our engagement. But when I picked him up from the airport 6 months later (and a week before our wedding) he got down on one knee and asked me if I would still marry him in the airport. I couldn't even say anything I was so choked up and a bunch of older ladies just stared at us like they couldn't believe what was happening.
It sounds so simple typing it but I just loved it!
After closing on our first house we were walking up to the front door all exited, keys in hand, he stopped, picked me up, and carried me inside. It was so simple but I'll always remember him being so excited to carry my through the door of our house!
