Why is childcare so hard!?! (vent)

Long story short. We had a daycare provider flake on us right before I went back to work so we had to scramble and find a new one. We found a brand new person who had just been licensed, had a clean, nice home and was great with DS. We LOVE her! We have been there for two months and yesterday she told us that because she hasn't been able to get more kids she was going to have to close down and go back to work. I DON't want to lose her and I DON'T want to find another daycare. I hate this. I even posted a plea on the San Diego board to get her more kids and I amy or may not have tried to bribe my assistant to move her three kids there...FML

I am sorry. I have a couple of friends who live in San Diego. They love their local parents' groups. If you're active in one (sounds like you are) is suggest asking for DC referrals too.

Its so hard. So hard. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 6 month old and I have been dealing with this exact same thing since my 1st was 3 months old. It never fails, as soon as you find something thats working, they bail for one reason or another. Or your schedule at work changes. Or something. I have several friends who are always talking about this too. If you have a childcare provider that lasts more than 3 months, count your blessings daily. It really sucks. Were moving and so Im currently going through this myself.

Since I work 14+ hours just 3-4 days per week (some being weekends/holidays) and DH working a regular 9-5 job...we pretty much had to go the non-traditional route and instead of paying $1400 and dealing with constant sickness, we opted for the grandma/nanny route 1-2 days/week.  It's so much cheaper, LO hasn't really gotten sick, and the 2 people that watch him are super reliable.  One is a nurse that works with me; we're good friends and she loves LO, so it's win/win.  Any way in-home nanny would work better?

A good provider is so hard to find. I am also wondering if you could swing hiring this provider as your nanny.
