Hi - We are awaiting finalization and also planning an international trip (we adopted domestically.) Our social worker advised us to wait until finalization before applying for a passport, but I am not sure why we need to do that. We have an updated birth certificate and SS card showing our daughters legal name (which is our last name,) The passport application excepts a birth certificate as proof of parental relationship, so we would not need to show an adoption finalization document. We don't expect to be travelling internationally before our finalization, but wanted to get a jump on the application.
Anyone have any experience applying for passport prior to finalization?
Does the BC show you as the parents? You will get a new one at finalization showing you guys as the parents, and that's when I would look into a passport. Her pre-finalization BC, even with her current name, should list her birthparents on it
DD is 4.5. We're just now getting around to a passport, LOL.
