I know it's not Friday and "the bump" seems to love FFFC, but here goes...I let my babies watch TV sometimes! (gasp) I have a 15 month old and a 3 month old and Daniel Tiger is my personal in-house (free) babysitter. No, I don't put it on all the time. I spend PLENTY of time with my babies. I'm a teacher out for the summer, so...essentially a temporary stay-at-home mom and sometime I just feel like I'm going to lose it! My girls are the sweetest babies and I love playing with my "oldest" and building blocks and reading books and doing puzzles. I love holding my 3 month old and rocking her and feeding her. However, there are times when I have to tend to one and just need some help. There are also times where I just need 20 minutes to shower, eat, or just breathe. These are the times I turn the TV on. My husband has been working 6 days a week lately so it's just me and them. Am I alone in this? Sometimes I feel like a horrible mother and other times I just feel like I'm doing the best I can.
Nope not alone. I have a 28 mo old and 10 mo old and they sometimes watch TV, more so the Older one. The younger one isn't that interested yet. Give yourself a break! There's nothing wrong with a little tv!
I'm In the same boat-teacher on summer break. I have a 14 month old (preg with #2 due in February). My hubby has a newish job and doesn't get home until late and leaves first thing in the morning. I feel for stay at home moms, it's hard to keep the kiddos occupied all day. So yes, we watch tv here and there...no I don't plop him in front of the tv all day.
This shouldn't even have to be a confession because unless you a superwoman, I don't know anyone who literally is engaged actively playing all day with their kids. I use TV to get things done or when I need a break and I'm not feeling bad about it. My daughter learns all sorts of awesome stuff from TV actually. She watched a Bubble Guppies on the library recently then told me that we needed to go there so she could get some new books. Awesome!
Find some shows that you like that you think are somewhat educational and do not feel bad about it for one second.
We were 2 under 2, now 3 under 3!
Team Green turned Team Pink with #1, Team Green turned Team Blue with #2, Team Green turned Team Pink again with #3
Thanks y'all! It makes me feel so much better that I'm not alone in this. I guess I just read so many things about how children under 2 should NEVER watch TV (not even in the background!) and I feel like that is impossible for me which makes me feel like a horrible mother. I'm so tired of mommy guilt! I guess I better get used to it though!
I swear I love Mickey Mouse more than my son. It makes him happy for a few minutes and he sometimes even lets me eat because of it! My older son watched tv and he is in all GT!
