I bought a carrier yesterday from Walmart. It has no buckles. It is secured only by ties. I tried it today and my 5 week old son didn't like it. He was cranky at the time so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. I have a few questions about using it. First, there is nowhere for his legs to go. In the picture, it shows them coming out the sides but the baby is much older and that seems like a big stretch for a newborn. Do you put the legs out the sides or have them in the carrier? Second, should his head be completely out of the carrier or should it be in so the carrier supports the back of his head? It just seems like I'm bunching him up in the pouch and he is going to be uncomfortable.
I know in the ergo their legs don't stick out the sides until they are a little older. Since it looks similar I would assume that would be the same for this carrier. Also newborns tend to feel more secure when that curled up, so he may actually prefer that. Are there any youtube videos you could check out to see how they use it for a newborn? If nothing else I would give it another try when your LO is in a happy mood and see how it goes.
I have the ergo and infant insert but I can't figure out the insert at all. It doesn't make sense to me how she's supposed to be in there and when I've tried she screams. Frustrating because it was expensive! We will keep trying though.

This is me. I've watched YouTube videos, asked on here, and even asked a woman on the street who was carrying a 6 wk old baby in it. Each time I try to put DD in though it doesn't seem she fits right and she screams! I got the k'tan today as a gift... Going to try that tomorrow.
We use the ergo with the infant insert and she loves it. It's like a little burrito shell. It took some practice to get her comfy but now it's no problem. I put her in the insert then slide her down into the ergo. I have to make sure her bum is on the little pillow and her legs are folded up comfortably. Keep trying maybe when your baby is already groggy or calm as it will be harder of they are worn out.
@lizjlewin - where does your baby's head end up resting? Mine seems like it still wobbles around too much. I wonder if she is too long for infant insert and so she's sticking up too high?
My baby likes the K'tan some days and hates it others. I don't know whether to try another type or keep at it.

The k'tan probably won't work for too much longer anyhow. You can keep trying if you want but a soft structure carrier like the ergo or boba might work better for you in the long run.
Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
Re: Carrier questions
However. I felt the bottom tie wasn't secure so I returned it. I went with an ergo instead for security. But I have a wiggler.
If you don't use the insert for the ergo a rolled up blanket does the trick. Just make sure their legs are supported from the bum out to the knees.
