Staying awake through feedings (BF)

I only breastfed DS for 3 weeks and falling asleep was never an issue once he switched to bottles, so remind me... At about what age do BF babies start staying awake through feedings? I know they're all different, so I'm just talking averages.

My LC said when the baby falls asleep but isn't done yet, do a hand expression to squirt some milk out. This reminds him what he's doing. Seems to work for me!

DS will typically fall asleep after feeding on only one breast from anywhwre between 8-12 minutes. I found that if I tried to lay him down thinking he was satisfied and he wasn't, he'd be awake and wanting to nurse again in 30-45 minutes (which was exhausting). So I started changing his diaper in between breasts rather than at the beginning of each feeding (so feed on one side, change diaper, feed on the other). Baby hatessss having his diaper changed so it wakes him right up!
