Baby Names

What do you think of these names?

I find out in two days what the gender will be! So, what do you think of these two names? DH and I are set on these two and have been for some time now. Just would like some unbiased opinions of how people will react to these names. Thank you! :)

Boy - Stetson Anthony
Girl - Sawyer Ann

Ann and Anthony are family names. So, I knew I had to incorporate those somehow.

We are very aware Stetson is a brand of hat. DH wears Stetson hats. We are also aware it's a cologne. :)

  • I agree with PP.  Ann and Anthony are solid, classic, timeless names.

I really hate Stetson.  And I can't decide if naming a child after the hats your husband wears makes Stetson worse or better...  There are so many better cowboy-ish names that are real names.

Sawyer on a girl is cringe worthy, but I prefer it over Stetson on a boy.  If that makes sense.

    What about...

    Girl:
    Faith
    Miranda
Susanna (though that doesn't work well with Ann as a mn)
    Molly
    Elizabeth/Betty
    Eliza
Annabelle (once again, can't use Ann as a mn)
    Claire

    Boy:
    Wyatt
    Cole
    Blake
    Landon
    Jesse
    Colton
    Clinton

We were thinking about Wyatt for a bit, but it didn't flow well with our last name. Thank you for your suggestions!

Thank you for your suggestions. Still sticking to our names. I guess I should have explained we didn't choose the name because he wears the hats, likes the hats, etc. We are from Texas and a lot of people wear those hats, among others. We chose it because it flows with our last name. If I were to wear Uggs, it wouldn't mean that I would name our child Ugg. That's probably a horrible example. Just explaining that we knew that the name was coming from a hat company. :) I feel it is no different than couples who choose Levi... or worse; car names.

Stetson and Sawyer stay. Thank you all for your opinions and suggestions! :)

    Lol. Yes, I understand that!

I'm laughing at the gifs. We haven't told anyone but my family the names yet and I wanted to see how a random person reacted. Didn't change my mind... but nice to see.

    Stetson is pretty bad

I just think most of the names DH and I discussed were boring/overused. I know that crazy names aren't welcome on these boards, or any for that matter from others that I had read.
  • kallie+kallie+ member
Most of the names DH and I tossed around, I went to school with/knew someone or several people with that name and didn't like it just for that reason. We had discussed Aidan and Wyatt for a while and just didn't like them. Doesn't mean I don't like them on other people... but not for my child. Most of the girl's names we discussed had been used on family members or had bad associations for the family. Sawyer was the first name I liked and kept on the list and the others were crossed off. I just see the trend of using masculine names on girls being not very welcomed by other mothers.
  • kallie+kallie+ member
I just love 'em, ya dig?
  • What are some of the other names you've considered but tossed?  I'm curious what your style is...

There is something about Brooke that I just don't like.
  • Your name choices are horrible. Remember, your kid has to live with those names and apply for jobs. At least you're giving them a middle name to go by when they are older, because they are not going to want to go by the name of a hat (stetson) or a last name/boy's name (sawyer) when they are trying to be taken seriously as an adult. Sorry if that's harsh, but you seem like you need a reality check.

This post feels a little like that stuff you get when you mix water and dirt. What's that called again? Oh yeah.....

Coming from someone who has worked on the ambulance, I can say I have come across many names and I feel like these names will not be detrimental to my children or their future. I have seen some bad names. I guess you would just have to know DH and I and see why identity and names like these are important to us. Like I had said previously, I had an idea that names of this sort were not welcomed. I guess don't use them for your children. I also feel like a Stetson and a Sawyer will have just as good of a chance of getting a job as a Jennifer or Aaron. Especially in 2030-something. I do appreciate opinions. Thank you.
  • What about using Anthony and Ann for first names?

You should have mentioned, we would have realized that this was a lost cause a whole lot sooner.

I feel like something beautiful should come from this thread, so I leave you with this gif:

You would think we would realize it with Stetson and Sawyer...especially Stetson. I actually took the time to find a list on nameberry entitled "cowboy names" and "country singer names." Those lists were painful to read...and included Stetson and Sawyer.

The names that have been suggested are dreadful. Half are stripper/porn star names. The other half sound depressing and boring. Sorry these names are not for you, but the are adored by DH and family. I doubt I will come across someone that says any of this when they hear my child's name though.

You sound nuts, but we've gone over that already.
And no, people probably won't say it to your face, but they sure will laugh behind your back.

According to you there are 2 types of names,
    1) Generic
    2) Stetson and Sawyer
You know nothing, I'll tell you that.

Stetson is absolutely ridonkulous. Does anyone deserve such a terrible name? And Sawyer is ugly, especially on a little girl. Ugh.
