We had our first RE appointment yesterday and to say it was not what I expected it to be would be a major understatement... We walked in and after briefly asking us some basic questions she says "well, I looked at your HSG results and the right tube needs to be removed". Uh...
She said that it is so badly damaged that even pregnancy is a risk due to a possible ectopic and the fluid that is getting stuck in the tube could be toxic to any pregnancy that resulted from the left side causing miscarriage or just flushing the pregnancy before we ever even knew about it. She said that we will go in and remove the tube if it is bad as she thinks it to be and will look at the left tube also because she is slightly concerned about it also. I asked what would happen if we left it and she said nothing (like it's not going to burst or anything) but that our odds of getting pregnant were even lower. That news kind of put an end to any other questions that I had, lol. She said that we would only have to wait one cycle after surgery to try again and that we can continue to try naturally, IUI or other ways as long as she is able to make sure the left side is ok. If for some reason both tubes are bad and have to come out, we go straight to IVF.
I wanted to burst into tears when she told me but there was so much information that I just kind of forgot about the crying and listened, lol. We are doing some more blood work and another SA for DH and then we will plan the surgery. It was such a relief to be around people who actually got what the hell I was talking about and I didn't have to deal with stupid admin people arguing with me about insurance and testing dates, etc. The visit with the insurance lady was well worth the time alone! It turns out that my OB who is billing me for everything is billing it wrong and my insurance should cover it and if not it at least goes towards by deductable vs. just straight out of pocket like they want.
This is definitely a setback that I was not anticipating but I almost feel as if the stress and pressure is off. There is a reason I wasn't getting pregnant and now we know why and what to do to fix it. I'm hoping for surgery end of May/early June so keep good vibes my way ladies. As always, thank you for being such a wonderful group. This was one place where I actually looked forward to sharing this with because I know we are all going through similar battles together.
