Maryland Babies

seeking opinions: MFMs, Hopkins, Franklin Square

Hi Ladies,

I'm here seeking some opinions, so if you have insight, please feel free to share (the good, the bad, the ugly, I'll take it all)..

We had our conceived LO through in vitro last fall and had a great pregnancy until 20w. I experienced PTL (most likely due to IC) and lost LO. My OB (who I'm not a fan of right now) has indicated that if I get pregnant again, I will need an MFM (perinatologist) to consult throughout the pregnancy.

I've done some research on other hospitals, as well as some MFM specialists. In terms of hospitals, I'm looking for one that has a NICU (just in case), and has MFM specialists on staff.

Has anyone here had experience with the MFM specialists at Hopkins (not Bayview) or at Franklin Square? Any major differences between the two in terms of the L&D experience?

  • The only thing I know about the NICU at Franklin Square is they have no "special care" nursery so if your baby does NICU time, there's a good chance they'll be transferred to another hospital to be in the

I had gestational diabetes diagnosed early in my pregnancy. I went to MFM at Sinai hospital and found everyone to be great. Everyone was very friendly and the doctors were great about going over everything with me. I don't know about the NICU.

Both my girls were at the NICU at FSH for 2 weeks. They were between 33 and 34 weeks. My youngest had issues with A's & B's and my oldest was mainly a feeder/grower. We had a great experience at FSH and I would recommend them to anyone.

  • My OB is with JHCP, but since I'm AMA I had a few meetings with MFM at Hopkins (all my ultrasounds were done there as well). Fortunately I haven't had any complications, but I've been very happy with the staff that I've interacted with at Hopkins so far. I can't speak to L&D at Hopkins since I have a few more weeks...
