First of all, Peeps are disgusting. Absolutely nasty.
Secondly, in terms of gift giving, Easter is not Christmas! I saw pictures on Facebook of people who were giving their kids tons and tons of presents and candy for Easter. They easily spent hundreds of dollars on it. To me, if the gifts can't fit in an Easter basket, then it's too much.
@BC&LM - I totally agree with both of yours! Gift-giving for Easter was never a thing for my family growing up, but last year, my brother got his kids BIKES!!! This year, they were all bummed and snotty that they only got a ton of small presents. But even their "small presents" were out of control.
Totally agree about the Easter thing. My kids each got a movie, a pack of popcorn with a pass to stay up late and have a movie night, and goldfish (DS got peach puffs) in a pastry bag tied with green ribbon to look like a carrot. That be all.
I don't make a huge deal out of Mother's Day. My first my H made me breakfast, got me a card, and we spent the day cuddling with DD1 as per usual. Now, I just love getting hand made cards from the kids. DD2 is usually just some scribbling on a paper that DD1 folded for her. Lol. And, I still very much enjoy the breakfast. I have never gotten a gift, other than something the kids have made, and I would never expect one.

And I am in tears over this post. It is my first mother's day this year, I can't wait for the days where I get hand made cards from William (and maybe other babies that I eventually have). I don't know what to expect this year, but I really hope it is breakfast and snuggles!
I have no desire to even try peeps...they look like they would be gross.
Mother's Day - we usually do a smallish, sentimental gift. Also though this year for Father's Day DH wants call of duty bc he found them on sale...
For Easter i had all kinds of things I wanted to get for ds1 and DH reigned me in. I'm glad he did! I kept it to a pair of sunglasses and a stuffy on top of some candy and egg hunt.
@tttwalters When DD1 was in preschool they made a craft there that I still have and cried like a baby. They used their handprints to make different pictures and there was a poem on each page. Amazing. But, she also made me a card herself with her best effort at spelling that I was the bestest mom in the whole world and she's so glad I'm her mom. I also still have that and still cry and turn to mush when I read it. I can't wait for you to experience all of that. It's the best!!
I love the idea of Peeps so I buy it every easter but then I eat one and get grossed out and toss the rest.
insert GIF of Role Models where Danny asks "Do you like coke?" and Augie says "I like the idea of it more than I actually like it" - why doesnt this gif exist?
@tiffletons518 the stuff they make is hands down better than any store bought gift. Last year I got a picture of flowers but the flowers were made from Aiden's hand prints in different colors. For Father's Day they asked the kids some leading questions and wrote down their answers. One of them was "My daddy always says..." and Aiden said "that I destroy stuff." Which is true lol Then they asked "My daddy's job is..." and he said "to pick up my toys." We laughed so hard.
I think it's weird when people save everything their kid ever colors. I keep stuff they made using their hands or feet, things that are milestones (like I have a few pages where Aiden was learning to write letters) but a coloring book page? Recycle. A sticker scene that isn't personal in any way? Trash. I have to hide them from Aiden though because it offends him to see his shit in the trash lol
I don't think this is unpopular, but I wish you could pay for only what you eat at restaurants. I know it calls the issue if what to do with the leftover food, but I'm trying to eat well and if I'm paying for a $12 breakfast, you bet your ass I am eating all the pancakes
Then perhaps I do have a UO until I can have handmade gifts from Malcolm I damn well expect a present! From my husband. I expect HIM to appreciate me just a little. But this is also because we don't do Christmas gifts/Valentines/Anniversary so I will use it as an excuse to get something for myself!
LOL Ok now my other UO is that I don't think picture of projects is the same as the actual project. As much as I limit what I keep, what I do want to keep I want to know they touched with their own two hands.
@BC&LM I cant love your post bc i love peeps! Only the yellow ones though.
I actually thought about creating two separate posts for that reason (because people might agree with one but not the other), but then laziness won out!
Not sure if it's a OU or FFFC- I miss my pet rock. He didn't start crawling til right before we left for our trip and now he goes full force all across the house. It's cute and I understand it's part of the growing process but with him, the crazy dog and other kid, I'm exhausted.
It is sooooo tiring taking care of LO now! I loved being able to just sit on the couch with him and read stories and sing songs. Now, he grabs at the book and will only sit still for songs that have hand motions that go along with them. But then I remind myself that he has so much more personality now and can do so many cute and funny things. For example, we have a small living room, so we don't have a coffee table, just a small TV tray. Now that he can stand, cruise, and even walk a little bit, he will come up to the TV tray and crouch underneath it and look and me. Then if I put my head above the tray, he giggles and looks above. And then he looks under again and so on, basically playing peek-a-boo using the tray, and he loves doing it so much. So when he tires me out, I try to remember that if he were my pet rock again, he couldn't do awesome stuff like that.
I have another one that might get me flamed: Even though we preferred making all our own purees, I can understand why other people might not want to do so. However the one store-bought puree I don't understand is bananas. It's cheaper to make your own banana puree and literally takes less than a minute. I don't understand why anyone buys banana puree.

When I was a nanny I made an "art gallery." It was just ribbon and they could use clothespin to display their art. They had so many slots and if they wanted to hang something new they had to put an old picture in the recycling bin. It was a good way to keep them from getting hurt feelings about throwing their stuff away since they had full control and it was kind of cute.
I think that the welfare system needs to be reformed but I don't necessarily think that people using the system are drug users. In New York last year there was a big investigation done and they discovered that a lot of the benefits cards were being used to withdraw money from strip clubs, liquor stores, etc. I believe they just enacted legislation prohibiting use at these types of establishments. Sadly, this won't really deter people who are using the funds at theses places as they will just go to a regular ATM to withdraw their money. I think a system needs to be in place where people receiving benefits will get what they need directly rather than having the ability to withdraw cash and go spend the money themselves. I think that will decrease fraud.
My son is on the WIC program. I am not entirely proud of this but my SO lost his job last February, my pregnancy wasn't an easy one so I wasn't able to work and didn't have the option of STD. We had to move back in with my parents and get WIC for Grayson when breast feeding didn't work out for us. We are still getting back on our feet over a year later. But if they wanted to drug test me then I would let them. I would pass but not everyone will. The child shouldn't be at fault for their parents making bad decisions.
I wear my hair in pigtails every once in awhile. I have long hair and like to mess around with fun braided hairstyles. Andplusalso I don't turn 30 for 3 more months, so perhaps I'm clinging desperately to my youth?
Not a fan of peeps or anything marshmallow-y
love the ideas on preserving kid's artwork.
I have nothing to say about the drug testing that hasn't been said already.
Parenting a crawling baby is tough, but, like everything else in their development, you get used to it and move on to the next thing I guess. Like walking, talking, potty training, and begging to borrow my car.
My UO: I hate how every time I google "how to wean baby" I have to sift through paragraph after paragraph about why I SHOULDN'T wean yet, the benefits of BFing for multiple years, and how GRADUAL it needs to be rather than how it's done exactly. I mean anyone who has BF for any amount of time is most likely aware of the benefits of BFing. I get it, there are benefits to extended BFing, but can you just cut to the chase already and answer my question?
I was thinking high pigtails on the side of the head, anyone do those?
I can't imagine seeing a woman wearing them like that and thinking, wow, that looks great.
Cute:
Not cute:
This is what I was thinking of also. I saw a lady at target the other day with pigtails like that and it was just weird. @gigglejiggle that's a beautiful picture!

FFTC: Seeing beautiful pictures like that always makes me a little teary. LO was rushed to the NICU as soon as I delivered and I never got to have that moment. The first time I held him was totally magical, but I was in a wheel chair in the middle of the NICU and he was attached to a bunch of wires. I am so so so grateful that he got all the help he needed and he is an amazing kid, but that is such a precious moment, I really hope I get to experience it some day.

@Cricket81 Don't feel alone. I feel that way too. I didn't get Lily until 4 hours later, thankfully in our room as she was in the NICU briefly. I feel sad about the fact that I missed her first bath and feed and hours of life.

This might sound weird but N hated fresh banana purée. I tried many times and she would only eat the store bought stuff...and I bought the organic stuff. I wonder if it has to do with texture? The store bought stuff was always more smooth.

My kids got shoes, and Owen got a puzzle. Those didn't fit in the basket though.
I also got them minimal candy.
My UO: People on welfare should have mandatory drug tests.
