Success after IF

How soon can we do IVF after this nugget is born

Took us 2 yes and 4 IVF cycles to get our BFP. I know I'm a little crazy but I'm 8w now and planning the next one. DH is 42 and we don't want to wait. Any experience?

Re: How soon can we do IVF after this nugget is born

  • I'm a planner too :)

I haven't done IVF, but other ladies on this board will be able to help. One thing I know is that docs will want you to be finished breastfeeding, so take that into consideration in your planning. I also know that the answer depends a lot on your medical history/ IF issues, so this is a question that only your doc will be able to fully answer.

    Congrats and GL!

  • The BFing is a big issue, but your delivery will be as well. My OB was very insistent that I not get pregnant until at least one year post partum because of my c-section. She preferred longer. But, in all honesty, my body did not even feel good enough for another pregnancy until recently (18 mos). So, everyone and every baby is different. Your OB should be able to answer questions at your post partum visit and your RE will have an opinion as well.

    Congrats!!

I was going to mention what @Ruthie04 said about c-sections.  My OB wanted me to wait at least a year after my CS before getting pregnant again.

  • I recommend reading this:

    https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/getting-pregnant/in-depth/family-planning/art-20044072

I know that IF can obviously impact your family planning decisions when it comes to pregnancy intervals (honestly, we started  TTC #2 a little sooner than I would have liked due to my DOR diagnosis), but it is important that your body has a sufficient amount of time to heal after giving birth. Good luck with your current pregnancy.

  • We were told our best chances to get prego with #2 was to try as soon as possible within in the first year of #1.  I had to have a c-section but my doctor said I healed perfectly and by the time I would get towards the end of the pregnancy we shouldn't have anything to worry about.  Unfortunately we haven't gotten prego yet, just did our 2nd IUI yesterday to see if that would work before going back to IVF.  If it doesn't work then we will figure out when we want to go back to IVF instead of spending the money month after month on IUI.  Good luck!

My RE recommended trying for #2 ASAP after giving birth to DD, since I was 39.5 when that happened.  Breastfeeding didn't pan out, so with that obstacle out of the way, I went back around 4 months and was able to cycle pretty soon after that.  Our first IVF worked and we now have two little ones that are just over 14 months apart (DS arrived 2 weeks early).  You can see the details in my sig.

ETA:  I also had a CS, and my OB was fine with moving forward so quickly.  I did wish I had waited a little though, because although I had no health issues, I found the pregnancy a little harder the second time around.  It could have to do with having a toddler and working full time as well, but I couldn't wait to be done being pregnant.  Having said that, I still feel it was worth the short term discomfort to complete our family, and I think it'll be great having our kids so close in age.

  • Wait - You are 8 weeks PG now or 8 weeks PP now? If you are just 8 weeks pregnant, the answer is that nobody can tell you. It depends on so many things that haven't happened yet. It depends on your delivery, your recovery, how life with a newborn is, how the rest of your pregancy goes... My best advice is to enjoy your success for now. I know that after we had DS we were on cloud nine. We were so happy to finally have him. It was the happiest I had been in years. We started TTC again when he was a year old. As soon as we started again, all the old IF feelings came rushing back. It was very difficult. When you do decide to TTC again, make sure you are ready to climb back onto the roller coaster. Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! Happy and healthy nine months,

  • There is definitely a range of opinions on this, but what I've heard is that if you had an uncomplicated delivery and you have weaned, you can generally start the process again at 3 months PP. As others have mentioned, there is definitely a movement towards encouraging women to wait longer intervals between pregnancies all things being equal, but sometimes this isn't practical. I finished weaning and began TTC again last month (9 months PP) and we plan to do a FET with my next cycle.
    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d

    FET #2 = BFN

  • Liek som PPs, I was BFing and had a c-section, so my doc wanted me to wait a minimum of 9 months before my next pregnancy (for my ute to heal) and i didn't want to wean before 1 year. I ended up weaning at 11 months in Nov and did a cycle in Jan and it worked. My DS will be 21 months old when these babies are born.

There are blogs of women who successfully cycled while BFing, but my RE is against it and I am 100% OOP so I didn't want to chance it. But, some have done it!

Keep in mind that the frosties won't age, even if you do. Your husband may be 42, but he'll only be 43 if you wait a year. See what I'm getting at? Time is no less on your side next year than it is now. You don't need more eggs or sperm if you are using the frosties. See how things go with this one first before you jump too far ahead and forge to enjoy the journey you are already on.
