Should I be requesting more from Doc***UPDATE***

I'll start with a quick intro since I don't post very often.  I had my son 4 years ago at 32 weeks, PTL that couldn't be stopped, otherwise no known issues.

I am now 16 weeks with second baby.  I have had only one ultrasound at 8 weeks and heard the heart beat again at 12 weeks.  They plan to start me on p17 shots next week.  Should I be pushing for more from the Doc?  I hear about cervix checks, high risk docs, ect.. But we have not discussed anything like that?

Any advice you ladies can share would be greatly appreciated!  TIA

Sounds like he is on top of things but if you feel uncomfortable you can always get an assessment from a high risk specialist or ask for a referral from your ob. My ob referred me but I had a page long list of issues :)
  • Well, you mention that you haven't discussed any of those options so why not have that conversation with your OB? Ask him/her what the plan is and why you aren't going to see a MFM. Ask them if you are going to have cervical checks, etc.

I suggest being open with your OB about your questions and concerns. Don't hesitate to ask them what their plan is and WHY. It is important for you to know the reasons behind their choices. If you don't agree, speak up and tell them what you need from them.

  • As pp said talk to your ob about the plan and seeing an MFM.  Also, call your insurance company.  I had ds1 at 34 wks.  With my 2nd my p17 shot was given by a nurse, who came to may house or work, and felt my belly took blood pressure, ect.  The insurance also had nurses call me every 2 weeks to ask me questions and let me ask any questions I had.  They also sent a preterm labor nurse to meet with me one time.  Good luck.

  • I had my dd 9 years ago at 34 weeks. This time I started 17p at 16 weeks, I also was referred out to see a MFM in addition to my regular ob group. I had transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds once a month until now, 33 weeks. You should always talk to your dr about your concerns. It could be that they feel comfortable following closely without extra dr's in the mix. Either way, good luck to you! :-)
  • Thanks for the input ladies. I did talk to ob and he referred me to an MFM. Long story short, I was right to be worried. MFM said baby is measuring 2weeks behind. She is quite concerned. We are now waiting results of materni21 then possible amino and another growth scan. I'm trying to stay positive but pretty much freaking out.
