So i am 40 weeks and 2 days now. Went to the doc yesterday and they told me i'm STILL only at 1cm and if nothing has changed in a week or so, they will need to plan an induction.
This is my first baby, so i really have NO idea what a contraction is supposed to feel like. But tonight, i've been feeling some major pain in the pelvic area kind of like someone is tugging my forward by my insides. Sometimes it lasts for around 8 seconds, sometimes around 25 seconds. And it has happened a few times, but sometimes 20 minutes apart, sometimes close to 7 minutes...
Is this a contraction? i thought if they were, they'd be more regular than this and last longer....
I've been doing research online about irregular contractions, but i'm really not sure exactly what this is... anybody have had this experience? or know what it is?
I'm honestly really hoping it is contractions... don't really want to have to be induced
Sounds like it could be early irregular contraction. You will just have to wait and see- that's the hardest part!

I'm a FTM mom and haven't felt so much as a BH. If you lay down, take some Tylenol and hydrate and it slows down/goes away it's nothing. If it increases where you can time the pain after doing the above, give your doctor a call. Hope you don't have to be induced!
I had an irritable uterus around 40w. I had strange constant contractions in my upper uterus for hours at a time 3 separate days. It was miserable. I've also had a pulling sensation in my crotch that my doc says are contractions, but they don't feel like I think they "should". I rarely have abdomen contractions beyond BH. At 41w I was 1cm 60% effaced. I'm 42w- baby is healthy and comfortable. Only about 4cm after 6 membrane sweeps.
All this is to say that contractions are crazy. If your baby is healthy (I had a biophysical profile yesterday to check mine) and your doctor isn't insistent on an induction, you don't "have" to worry about induction just yet. Check out the new standards on normal gestation.
Good luck!!

My contractions with my first felt like someone was trying to rip my belly button out my crotch. With my second it was more menstrual cramps. Always feel for a rock hard belly to tell if it's a true contraction. Good luck!!!
With my first, I didn't think my contractions were "real" contractions because they never got regular, but then they did get stronger and I couldn't get them to stop. I used an app to track, and called in when they averaged around 5 minutes apart and long, but they were still happening anywhere from 8min to 30sec apart. He ended up coming very fast - 6 hours after I felt my first contraction, he was born.
With THIS child, I've been having contractions for 3 weeks. Mostly they feel like menstrual cramps. Often my belly gets hard and I can't stand up fully straight. It can take hours of rest/water/Tylenol before they stop. Even when I don't notice them, at doctors appointments they come up on the monitor. Add to that the fact that he was in an unstable lie until this week, and we ended up at the hospital twice only to be discharged. I have also been stuck at only 1cm for three weeks. I'm at my wits' end. Today is his due date, so I'm hoping soon...
My doc has said to go by strength, since my contractions don't accelerate predictably. If I'm having trouble carrying on conversation while contracting, it's time to call.
Mine have been extremely inconsistent and irregular, but they must be real BC they dont calm when I lie down and hydrate myself. Wish my LO would make up his mind.
