Trouble TTC

Frustrating Follies - at what point does the cycle get cancelled?

So on Wednesday I had one follie at 12mm.

Today I have a total of 5 from 10 to 13mm. The original follie didn't grow at all.

So chugging along with our medication as is, they're debating adjusting the dosage but want to see where I'm at on Monday morning. She mentioned something about cancelling the cycle. So is it when eggs are mature, like 18mm+ and 6 or so that they cancel?

Or if I have 2 mature and 3 smaller ones that's OK? Just curious what your cancelled cycle experiences are like. I was hoping for a few more answers today instead of more questions.

TIA

Re: Frustrating Follies - at what point does the cycle get cancelled?

  • I had 6 mature follies back in January. My RE didn't force us to cancel, but he did talk to me about his concern that we might end up with 3+ fertilizing and implanting. We chose to cancel and he 100% agreed. C and I have agreed that anything over 4 and we will cancel. My RE looks for 3-4 for an injectable cycle.

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

I think it all depends. My RE sees no problem letting me trigger with 5-6 mature. Then again I'm 39 and egg quality is my problem, I'll be lucky if 1 of the 5-6 are any good. This cycle I had 5 18mm or above and about 13 10mm -15mm. I've always heard 16 and above are possible to be mature.

Good luck I really hope you don't have to cancel.

  • My RE allows 2-4 mature follies for IUI. I think mature follicles can be smaller then 18mm during inject cycles as I started to ovulate on my own (before trigger) this past cycle and my biggest was only 16mm. I also had a 14, 13, 12 plus some 10s and 11s. I triggered as soon as the got my bloodwork results and had IUI the next morning. Based on my bloodwork she believed I was going to release 4 eggs....I was surprised since they were so small.

  • I am in the same boat as @Pintobean39‌, my dr. would like me to have 5-6 mature follies at my age due to egg quality. She has said that if I were younger than 35, with no quality issues, she would not trigger me at 5-6, however it is extremely unlikely at my age that more then one would be of good enough quality to fertilize. My last iui cycle I had 2 follies at 14 the day I triggered (in addition to 3 bigger follies) , and her comment was that she had seen size 14 "catch up". The only cycle I cancelled was due to low response, one fully mature follie. They would have performed an iui if I had wanted to, but being oop, I felt like it was waste. Fx for you!

This trial and error sort of concept for this cycle since its TI is driving me a little nutty. I did get the call today to knock my dosage down to 25IU
