Ok, as a FTM I find myself easily getting very nervous and worried about the huge impending change that having a baby will bring. And I think we spend a lot of time discussing the more sobering realities of what's ahead. But I was lurking over on April 2014 (I love birth stories) and this thread caught my eye:

My daughter crawled up my belly after she was born to nurse. Absolutely amazing and I hope this one does to.

For the first few weeks they are just so "squishy!". Not a lot of muscle tone, soft baby skin, sleepy eyes... they "wake up" after a few weeks and lose some of those characteristics, so this time I'm going to appreciate it a bit more.

having him sleep on my chest and I just love little baby farts or burps. It cracks me up that someone so small can be so loud.

Dh loves the little newborn cries. They make his big man heart melt.

I love having this whole new person to get to know. They all have there own little personalities. They are so soft and squishy. I like when they get hungry and start squishing there face around and doing the "hunger cues". All the little yawns and sneezes. Basically all of it. They are just damn cute.

Tiny yawns, tiny lips, sweet smells, eetsy beetsy leetle feetsies, soft skin, and the fact that he will be MINE ALL MINE and no one can ask to have him back, or judge me for snorting his skin.

Their snuggles for sure and the fresh baby smell. Charlotte tends to just smell like whatever she has eaten and spilled now. When they first start to recognize you and smile when you come into view.

The baby yawns, the little startle reflex they do when they're sleeping, when they start opening their eyes and reaaaally look at you. It was 3am our first night home with DS and his big dark eyes just locked with mine and I felt such an intense bond with him at that moment.

Babies are just awesome. I love their cheeks and super soft skin and silky hair and gummy smiles. Also naked baby tushes are the cutest thing ever.

Finally found a pic of my sweet baby yawning. He loved taking baths, as long as it was in the big tub and I was in there with him.

OMG I'm so thankful for this thread.  All of the details about child birth have made me generally feel anxious and panicky about having a baby but this thread brings me back from the dark side.  I'm so excited to experience all of these things!  

Also, I don't know if there is anything more adorable than seeing a dad holding his baby.  I can't WAIT to see DH (who has ZERO baby experience) holding this LO

After long nights of interrupted sleep feeding the little one ... DH would go to work in the morning and I would fall back asleep in bed with DD (scandalous I know). But then I would wake up and see her little sleeping face next to me. It's one of my favorite memories of maternity leave.

I'm generally not a fan of the newborn phase, but my hand to God nothing has ever smelled as wonderful as DD did fresh out of the oven. Newborns smell so good! I also can't wait to rock this new one to sleep. I love rocking babies. I'd still rock my 3 yo if she wasn't so dead set on being a "big girl"!

I loved the first look. I will never forget DD upside down straight from the oven staring right at me. She didn't cry right away, she just locked eyes with me. I tear up just thinking about that moment. The other one was when they held up DS and we saw the goods. DH squealed "it's a boy"! I love all the first moments but I really get excited around 12 weeks because they start interacting more and seem to see you as a human to love and not just their milk cow lol.

Can't wait to see what the little one looks like, can't wait to feel her fingers and toes. Praying to God I can see her eyes and meet her. Every day I feel her moving around in there, it's a gift, but that moment I can see her will make all the vomiting, aches, and pains so worth it. All these posts warm my heart. I say stay in there as long as possible, LO, but I'm so ready to meet you!

Snuggle cuddles on the boobies. Their smell!! This was DS2 after he was born. And watching them with my husband. They LOVE to nap on man chest.

Meeting them for the first time is really a surreal feeling, one I wasn't completely prepared for. I will say, after he was born, I got really uneasy whenever he wasn't in my arms or when someone else held him. I spent 9 months with just me and him and when he came out, I had to share him.
