Infertility Drugs for IUI...make you crazy?

Hello Ladies:

My fiance and I are thinking of starting our first IUI cycle in two weeks. My concern is that my parents will be visiting during this time and I don't want to be a crazy and emotional mess during their trip. What drugs did you take during your IUI treatments and has anyone not have any emotional sides effects? I believe I will start on Clomid, but I'm not sure what the trigger drug will be at this time. 

Any advice would be great!

I'm on Gonal, novarel trigger, and progesterone and it does make me emotional. I did have family staying and I was fine around them. They probably would have never known if they didn't catch me injecting meds in my stomach.

I just took 100mg of clomid for the first time and had zero side effects .Good luck!

I take Letrozole and progesterone. Both made me moody but it was similar to PMSing or just being slightly irritable. Nothing that would prevent me from spending time with family, and they probably didn't/wouldn't notice.

I've only been on injects. I've heard more negative stories than positive with the side effects of Clomid. But everyone is different, so it's hard to say! Good luck!

I've only used follistim, ovidrel, and progesterone. I experienced zero side effects from the follistim and ovidrel but I HATE progesterone

You would probably be ok in terms of the drugs. People differ, but I took my Clomid at night and mostly I just had terrible night sweats. I was therefore tired and somewhat emotional during the day, but nothing that would prevent me from being around family. I think the thing I might be worried about is getting bad news (not responding or over-responded and having my cycle cancelled) and having to "hold it together" if the people staying with me didn't know what was going on.

I think that depends if your family knows what you're going through, what point in your cycle you are in (the first couple of days of Clomid would almost definitely be fine, the end of Clomid/beginning of monitoring might be harder), and your general relationship with your family (do they get under your skin under normal circumstances).

Clomid was awful for me, I was miserable on it. Emotionally I was more sad, crying than mean and irritable, so I'd take it even if I had family staying. Having family over May even help your mood sine it'd have your mind on other things.

I asked the same question that you're asking prior to starting my IUI.  I was so worried because I had heard horror stories about fertility medicines.  Don't do too much research because I believe that you can psych yourself out to have some of the symptoms.

I took clomid, ovidrel and progesterone. 

Clomid = No side effects for me.
Ovidrel = No side effects for me.
Progesterone inserts = That's a whole different story.

Just remember that everyone responds to medicines differently.  You may have no side effects from any of the medicines.   Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your input. My family is unaware we are seeing an RE and that we are seeking treatment, so that was my main concern with showing the side effects during their stay.

This cycle I was on Clomid + HCG trigger shot.  Emotionally I was a little affected but nothing out of control.  I think I would have been fine if I had anyone to entertain around that time.  One crazy side effect (not sure if anyone else has experienced this) with Clomid for me though was VIVID DREAMS!  I'm CD17 now (took Clomid CD3-7) and I'm still experiencing them.  I dream in color.  I remember such vivid detail like people's faces and smells of different foods that I was eating in the dream.  Very weird for sure.  I don't mind that side effect, it was kind of interesting actually!

Clomid made me an absolute mess. I was either bitchy or I was crying. Or I was clinging on to DH like a sad lost puppy. And I felt miserable all the time.  WORST 7 days of my life both times. The second cycle was a teeny bit better, I was more under control but then I got the worst headache I can imagine.
