Anyone on Synthroid?

Hey ladies!!  I'm just curious about how often you get your Thyroid levels checked when you are on synthroid?  My RE started me on 100mg of Synthroid back in September when he said my level wasn't "optimal" -- I believe I was around a 3.8/3.9?  A month or two later (I can't remember when exactly), I requested that my level be checked when I went in for 7dpo b/w.  My level was down to a 1.3/1.4.

Lately I have been feeling like I have no energy, and I'm worried that my level might be too low??  It has been a good 5 months at least since it has been checked, and I think 100mg might be a little high!?!

Any thoughts?

-----

Edited to add:  I have always felt a little uneasy about this prescription in the first place because the 1st time I spoke with the DR, he said my level was high and that I needed to go on synthroid.  The 2nd time I spoke with him, he happened to say as he was going through my numbers "thyroid looks good", so I said to him "well you put me on 100mg of synthroid because you said it was high, should I stop that?" and he responded "oh no...that's fine" and moved on.  I had to ask him to check my levels a month or so later because I wanted to make sure it wasn't too low.

When I was first diagnosed last year I was being checked every month and being monitored by my family doctor for about 3 months. I was on 50 mgThen I went two months without being checked and then I was told to come back in 6 months in July by that same family doctor. At that point my TSH was 2.7 not optimal for TTC but better than the 8 I had. I then started testing and it came back at 8 again, I was feeling so sluggish and just though it was the fall weather. After being referred to a specialist in December I've been upped to 125 of Synthroid and have tested twice and I'm currently waiting for my second set of test results. I would go get it checked out just to make sure it's not your thyroid making you feel sluggish. From what I understand it can fluctuate even if you are on medication. Good luck! Edited because I'm on my iPad.

  • cls78 -- I almost feel like I should be on 25 or 50mg...I think 100 is too high.  I'm not a DR, so I really can't claim to know...  I was told it would only be for when I am TTC and pregnancy as well.

    Thanks for the feedback @muzikgrrl

  • I am as well! My primary care physician prescribed 88mg to me almost a year ago, but I'm unsure what my levels were at that time. I had it checked about 6 weeks later, and they said it was good.

When I started seeing RE, she had me retest. My number was 3.01, so she upped my prescription to 100mg. After 6 weeks, my TSH was 1.07.

So long story short, my dr. did not keep tabs on it. I have been feeling tired/sluggish for the last year, and it hasn't gotten much better with my increased dosage. Hopefully your dr. will listen to you and adjust your meds. TTC is hard enough when you feel normal!

  • I started 50mcg of Synthroid just over a month a go.  My number went from 4.07 down to around 1 in 30 days.   My RE has been testing me every two weeks just to make sure I am on the right dose.  I'm not sure how much she monitors it after the correct dose is decided on.
  • Just a quick question I'm on 50 and how does these levels affect ttc? Do you not ovulate?

My thyroid function was a little low so my doctor started me on 25 mcg. After 4 weeks I will get tested again and my dose adjusted if necessary. The thyroid controls hormones so it can mess with every system in your body including reproductive. Depending on how underactive your thyroid is, yes it could prevent you from ovulating. My doctor prescribed me thyroid medication to help promote ovulation and healthy fetal development once ( if) I do get pregnant.
  • Mine with from 3.8 to 1.4 in 30 days or so...so I'm wondering if mine is now too low.  I have been feeling sluggish and can't ever seem to find energy, so I'm worried that my meds are too high.

I actually started skipping days so that I'm not taking as much, because I was worried about it.  Next time I go in, I'm going to ask for it to be checked.

  • @jszy10‌ I'm on synthroid as well...I'd say if you're feeling off, call now and ask to be checked...typically with a primary care doc they'd check you after 6 mos so if you're at 5, it's a good time to recheck!
