Feeding...so what happens now?

We're getting lose to the one year mark and I don't exactly understand what happens with food. Does she just stop getting bottles and I offer her more food. She still eats tiny meals of solids so I can't imagine her eating enough to be full.

I'm going to slowly start transitioning to WCM at one year. I've been trying to introduce the sippy cup , but so far it's just a mess, so she'll probably continue with bottles for a time after turning one.

As far as solids, I'm planning on just gradually increasing portion sizes.

C is pretty good about eating 3 real meals (chicken and rice, spaghetti, etc) and two snacks per day, so we will drop bottles after a year. We may keep a bedtime bottle or do formula in a sippy just for the calories if he doesn't gain enough weight though.

With my oldest I got rid of bottles at one, my second was done with bottles earlier (he loved sippy cups). They both did fine with wcm in sippy cups.

I have no idea.  We will wait til we see the dr to change anything at 1 yr.

We have always listened to doctors suggestions as far as feedings and even napping.  It has worked out great for us.  LO fell into her own schedule just like dr said she would from the beginning.

I think I may try that enfamil toddler formula. It comes in a vanilla flavor so I may try say it's a "milkshake" or something to R and that it has to be drunk in a big boy cup (sippy). Right now he likes to be held like a baby and cuddled with his bottle so I don't think I can just take it away. I found a sippy cup that I think can still accomplish this, it's taller without handles. Hopefully he'll get a cup of that in the morning and one at night so we get our cuddles in (he is starting "school" end of June). I'm hoping at school he'll eat everything with the other kids. He's a good eater but likes to graze right now. I loved bottles and had them until I was 3-4. I don't want that for him. We're flying back to NY in July and I want to be bottle free by then.

Uh.  No idea.  We are still doing purees, one bottle of BM while I'm at work and nursing.  I guess I was going to see what the doctor says.  I have no problem with WCM and would do that.  I have a freezer of BM too so I guess I'll do that in a sippy cup and get rid of the bottle she gets during the day.  Nursing...  IDK.  She is already nursing less so I think I'm going to follow her lead.

Right I'm totally cool with giving her milk as a drink, I guess my concern is that the majority of her calories currently come from formula or BM and I can't see how I will change that over to solid food. Kwim

My plan is to start giving her WCM in her straw cup with/after her 3 meals when she turns one instead of bottles/nursing sessions in between. I'll probably drop the bed time bottle last and then give her milk in her cup at some point before bed. She does pretty good with solids though so I'm not too concerned about it. I looked online for guidelines about how much food they should be eating and sort of base it on that.

As far as oz of milk, I had read that they shouldn't have any more than 16-20 oz of WCM per day. It's not like formula, and too much can actually be a bad thing.

I can't really envision the next step either.  LO does well with purees, yogurt, oatmeal and so-so with finger foods.  She barely takes a sip from the sippy cup, mostly she bangs it on her high chair tray and drops it on the floor.  So I don't see us dropping bottles or nursing sessions any time soon.  Like others have said I will see what the pedi recommends at her 1 year visit.  I have to keep reminding myself that nothing magical happens the day she turns 1, it will obviously be a transition time not all or nothing.

I'm hoping she gradually wants to eat more solids. She gets 3 meals, and lots of snacks how much she actually gets and how much ends up on the floor are two different things. She will continue on formula after a year, I know she won't be eating enough food in a month to stay satisfied through the night. But ill start giving her homo milk too at a year.

We're actually in the process of slowly starting to transition her over to solids completely so that by the time she moves up to her next classroom, it won't a complete shock. Our plan is to start offering her the sippy with formula in it during meals and starting to phase out her bottles (while at the same time increasing the food itself). By the time she moves up to the next room (end of May, beginning of June most likely), she should be on 3 sippys with her lunch and two snacks, and then probably one for breakfast and one for dinner.

No idea. He goes to bed at 6:30 and wakes up at 5:30 for a bottle. He gets breakfast at DC around 8. This is the most confusing part for me. I am not going to make him starve until 8, do I give a sippy cup at 5:30am? Seems strange.

I was actually thinking about that since S gets up around 5:30 as well and we don't go to school until after 7 where we can send her with breakfast. I think, for now, we'll keep that bottle and make that the last one we wean her off of, and when we do, I'll probably either feed her breakfast at home if it's early enough, or give her some milk to tide her over?

So I have no idea what I'm going to do about switching from BM/Formula to WCM if they can't have too much. Right now DS is an eating machine. Yesterday he had 36oz of formula/BM plus an entire pear, a large banana, a blue berry muffin he stole at an open house, no idea how many puffs and arrow root cookies and an entire big slice of pizzeria pizza (just minus the crust). He probably could of finished off more at the open house if the better snacks weren't as high up. The day before he had just as many oz plus all the fruit and no idea how many chicken nuggets and other snacks because we were at a birthday party all day and everyone gave him things. He's a big guy but seriously, I don't know what I'm going to do.

@Shoegal36‌ if they can only have 16-20oz of WCM can they have toddler formula in addition to that?

I would think it would be ok...but I really don't know what I'm talking about. ALL my info is from the internets and Dr. Google. :)

What I read basically said that you don't want them to fill up on too much WCM because it doesn't contain all the nutrients they need like formula and breast milk does. If they get too full from it, they won't eat as much food.

Also, WCM can interfere with iron absorption and lead to anemia if they have too much.

Rachel has just dropped bottles on her own.  She drinks a full 7 oz one first thing in the morning, then between 8 and 13 more ounces over the course of the day in about 4 ounce bits.  She also eats a lot of table food and 1 or 2 puree pouches a day.  Once she turns 11 months, the pedi said we could work to transition to WCM.  She is still trying to figure out a sippy (or I am trying to find one she can work) so it may be awhile before we get rid of the bottles altogether.

ETA:  She dropped her bedtime bottle about a month ago.  The morning one will probably be the last to go.

I am not feeling so good about taking bottles away from LO.   So I am leaning towards following his lead.   I am sure there are some good reasons to take the bottles away, but darn he likes his bottles and he still uses them to relax and sleep.   I am thinking about taking my chances with the dental issues, etc.  Am I crazy?  Forcing things with my LO just don't seem to go well.

Well my dentist said she can have a paci until 3 so I can't see why a bottle would be so terrible. Especially if you are good about brushing teeth.
