Had a work shower in mid - March and my department spoiled us with tons of cute and practical stuff. Their generosity really shocked hubby and I. We knew we were loved but damn. I can't wait to have the girls come in and have all my office peeps go gaga over them lol.
Last weekend I had my family and friends shower and it was nuts! Also a blast but we didn't realize 50 people were coming haha. This one I was way more tired for, but it went from 11 to 5 so it was a little longer than a normal shower maybe. I also am measuring 35 weeks now so that could have contributed too!
It was a blast though seeing everyone and hanging out. My mom and sister threw it and went above and beyond. The presents are out of control and it currently looks like babies r us threw up in our living room.
Mostly though I was just psyched. After almost 3 years of waiting to have babies it was really awesome to be at MY shower!
It was fun! Mine was last month and it was more of a sprinkle. It was supposed to be a surprise but so many people let it slip that everyone kind of gave up on the surprise part, ha. My sister's MIL hosted and she went all out - she used to be a party planner and was like a kid in a candy store. It was just close family and friends and it was a lot of fun!
The one on my husband's side just happened and unfortunately it wasn't awesome. None of his sisters could agree on anything so they ended up putting the invites off and sending them out 4 days before the shower. Hardly anyone was able to make it with such short notice. I was really looking forward to catching up with a lot of his cousins too.
His sisters also didn't listen to anything about my dietary restrictions (gd) so it was full of sugar and more sugar. They only had a relish tray that I could eat. So that sucked too.
To end my shower they got in a big fight with each other about my niece's upcoming shower. In front of everyone so it was very uncomfortable. BUT they did a stellar job with decorations, it looked really cute!
Fingers crossed my other shower is a bit more planned and calm.
We had a small one with friends. All the fists were good and all but one from our registry, but since they were all couples bringing one gift per couple, not tons of stuff. I opted not to do one with family. It was good. I was worried about getting tons of clothes (we don't need any) bc everyone said we would. We didn't get one single clothing item. We're happy.
Mine is Sunday, can't wait! I posted in the aw/SS thread, but a lot of our family is coming from out of town... And a few uncles have asked if they could join as well, ha. Everyone is so excited for the baby, it's so sweet!
I had my first one last Saturday. My dad's family was there. There had been some fanily drama a few days before and my grandma said she wouldn't be there but ended up coming. It was obvious that there was tension between her and my aunts. Then she awkwardly started bawling while I was unwrapping my gifts. She left so I walked her out and there was an incredibly uncomfortable silence. Luckily, it was really only family that knew the situation and understand how dramatic my grandma is.
Later she called my mom to tell her that my grandpa told her to get me a gift. She didn't because of the situation. I don't care that she didn't get me anything, but why call and make it a point to tell me why she wouldn't get sonething?
My sister and BFF threw a small one for me back in Feb. It was soon but that was the only time my sister was in town ( she lives in Hawaii). It was really fun though. No family drama, not a lot of boring games, and lots of awesome food . My MIL will be throwing me a shower May 3, looking forward to that one as well.
My shower is next weekend, but it's already been a bit of a headache. My friend cleared the date with the my mom and MIL, sent out the invites with the date that suited them both, then MIL backs out because she "forgot" she had to go to a dance recital that day for her grand-daughter.
There will be about 8 people there and I'm excited to see them! Especially excited my sister is coming from FL with my nephew (who is 8 months old)
I have not had a shower yet, but found out officially today that DH's work is throwing him one that they want me and the kids to come to. It is so sweet of them! It will probably be very small; just a couple people and some breakfast and maybe a group gift. It is just so strange to me because I really don't know any of his co-workers (maybe have met a couple here and there) and none of my friends or family members are doing anything (not expected as this is not a first baby, but still a bit ironic).
Ugh @Loherrim what a mess! I'm so sorry everything is landing on your shoulders now...kinda sucks the fun out of the whole ordeal, I'm sure. Do you have any family nearby that could help you? Inlaws??
My shower was last Saturday, it was hosted by a friend since all of my family lives out of town. It was small but fun (no stupid games either!) and I got lots of great gifts. DH's work said they want to have a shower for us too but I don't know when that will be. I'm nervous for that one because I've only met his coworkers exactly twice. But as long as there's cake, I'm there!
You guys are making me super excited for mine on the 12th- none of my friends/family know but we are probably, 90% sure, moving 9 hours away this summer so this is most likely the last time I will have all my favorite people in the same room and after struggling with fertility it is so awesome to be showered with all this love for our miracle baby Quack:) I cannot wait!!
My work is throwing one for me and 2 other moms to be that are due within a month span (Short staffed this summer much???) next Tuesday, my mom and MIL are throwing me one may 10th, and the firefighter wives group is throwing me one may 18th. This is going to be one very spoiled little girl, I'm thankful to have so many amazing friends and family for support!

So nice of you to ask shellbell!! my shower hasnt happened yet tho! ill be sure to let everyone know when it does!
I don't know if I missed it but did you already tell the dad to be the baby's sex? Or is it still a shower surprise? Have you looked on pinterest for cute ways to tell him?
(My phone auto corrected pinterest to pint erect. That sounded naughty lol.)
Sorry to everyone struggling or stressing for one reason or another! Happy to hear there have still been a lot of good experiences so far though! I love going to showers to celebrate babies! (For other people's babies) Post photos if you have some!
I was not even thinking about having one since this our second. My sis-in-law brought it up but I had politely declined her planning one and told her I had not really even thought about it. I hate to be the center of attention in showers, they make me feel so uncomfortable when they are for me/baby. I'd rather just have friends meet baby at a summer BBQ. Well I just found out work had been secretly planning a little one with the coworkers in May. It's all out in the open since I know now, and I don't feel as though I can tell them no thanks at this point, so I am just going with it. I am excited to spend the time with my coworkers and I'll probably bring my sis-in-law along since she had asked about one in the first place. (no other close family here besides her) Even though I feel awkward about it, I'm still touched/thankful that work wanted to plan one
I'm traveling today for my shower with family this weekend. I'm super excited about seeing everyone. My local shower is at the end of the month with my friends. This is one should be the most fun.
Mine is April 19th but will be really small bc I just moved here from out of state and only have a few family members here. This is my third baby so I'm just glad they put something small together to help me out! I need all the extra crap I can get lol For all the women that all ready had theirs you are lucky bc i just want it over with so i can stop stressing about it. For all the Ladies that their shower is in may...good luck and I hope they all go well! @LoHerrim I had that kind of thing happen at my last shower so I understand what you are going through. It sucks. it seemed like days before my shower all my best friends had crazy things come up and they couldn't make it. Made me sad but in the end they were all there for me when i had my son!
Mine is scheduled for sometime in the end of May. There will be this boring games, veggie trays...the whole "church lady threw a shower" type thing. I'm only on board because it means so much to my sister to be doing it for me. It'll just be my family since my friends are 2 hours from the location it's at and all of them either have 2 little ones or will be finishing up school.
I was hoping my MIL might step up and do some kind of gathering (more BBQ than shower), more for my husband than anything, between our friends not going to mine, our impending move farther away, and her probably skipping out on it as well (unless my husband chauffeurs her up and back, in the car I'll be taking) but her idea of being involved in this pregnancy has been buying clothes.
I know I'm having one on the 19th. This will probably be one of the biggest because it's my side of the family (my Aunts are throwing it) as well as all my friends. I'm fairly certain my work will throw one at some point because it is tradition, but I don't know when -- I have been asked by them where I'm registered at though. And finally, a family friend/lady from my church told me she'd like to throw me one when we first announced "closer to time" but our schedules have conflicted and I haven't seen her much and she hasn't mentioned it since. I'm not going to mention it to her because I figure all the church ladies will just drop of a gift to us or bring something to his Baptism. I'm excited for the one on the 19th because I feel like I'll have more of an idea of what I will need to get -- I expect lots of clothes/blankets but not much from my actual registries. Regardless, I'm very thankful and know that this little fella is going to be spoiled rotten when he gets here!!
My shower is on Sunday. And I've been calling it Henry's Party instead of my baby shower!! I can't wait!! Although it still feels a little weird having one and not being pregnant anymore!! DH and I plan on printing up any pics we have so far and making a little collage since not many people have been able to visit him yet!!
This is our second so I declined a shower but my mom said we're doing something anyway. So my grandma, aunts, mom, sisters and myself are going out to a really nice lunch and getting pedicures next month. No presents or games or anything, so not really a shower, but a good excuse to get together!
My baby shower is next Saturday. I am excited about my baby shower but I have a lot of anxiety about it also. I will be goin home for this shower and I just hope everyone shows.its a bit much doing my own baby shower and I wish I could just show up! I am also having a little shower in may for my co-workers. I am more excited about that one because its more simple just food and good conversation!
Any other FTMs not have a shower? I don't have that many close friends where I currently live and many of my close friends are all over the country (many are pregnant or just had babies) so I wouldn't ask them to come.
I don't even really want one, but then I feel kind of sad that I'm not having one.
Mine is May 10, were having a BBQ at my SIL's house (she, my mom & MIL are throwing it) with no baby shower games, so I'm pretty happy about that! It's mixed so I'm looking forward to seeing all friends & family. People are saying the invite reads like a set of rules (ie the registry section) but we wanted to provide as much info as possible & be thorough as we are using myregistry.com not the normal store registry...so I'm trying to ignore that!! FX for no drama!!

I'm in a similar situation. My mom and all of my good friends and relatives who'd want to participate live 2,000 miles away. The people who are around (MIL, DH's aunt, and the one friend in town who hasn't moved away) have all mentioned wanting to throw me a shower since we announced the pregnancy but none of them have even talked to me about it since. I'd love a baby shower since this is my first, but I'm not about to plan one and throw it myself. Oh well.
@ktcort13 Good suggestion! My mom actually just called tonight and mentioned doing that- and while I thought it was weird at first, I may just take her up on it.
