DD not pulling up or standing on her own...

Yesterday, we had her 9 month checkup all is great w/everything else. My DD currently stands up w/assistance but on her toes. Doc said after a month if she still not standing. She will give me the # to physical therapist. Anyone else have a similar experience or have you seen a physical therapist?

My DD is about to be 10 months.  At her 9 month the doctor noted she was standing on her toes when standing with help (she doesn't stand on her own yet) and sent us to a PT.  The doctor was very nice, but wanted to put her in braces to force her feet flat.  We talked it over with our family and decided to give her a few more months before she was put in braces.  The doctor did give us some stretching exercises, but he mostly wanted to put her in braces.  If she is still having issues at her next check up we will seek a second opinion.  Good luck to you.

Wow, no mention of any of this at our 9m appointment. He pulls himself up, not sure if he's on his toes or not. I never really looked. I just figured they all developed at different rates!

Same here. At our 9 month appointment our pedi didn't even mentioned anything about the toes, and he was standing on his toes then. Now DS is 10.5 months and he doesn't do it much anymore. Maybe give it some time.

Will putting her in shoes help stop the going on toes?

Meh, I run a home daycare.  I recently had a 12month old girl start. She had no ability to stand at all.  Within 3 weeks she was pulling to a stand everywhere, all day.  She saw her friends doing it and suddenly had reason too.

Children do different things in different order in different time frames.  At 9 months I would not worry at all.  If you want to go to appointments go for peace of mind.  If it will be a financial burden I would hold off.

My cousin's baby was just sent to a specialist because at 17months he was not walking on his own but could run finger walking.  The next day, yes the next day he took off running and hasn't stopped since.  His poor parents were stressed because the doctor was making them go to specialists...when really it was not yet a concern.  Had he not been able to stand or finger walk at 17months maybe it would be concerning but he just needed a bit more confidence to go off on his own.

There is no need to rush these things.  Just provide opportunity and motivation an let her go at her own pace :-)

My son is 9.5 months old and only stands assisted, but for not very long. Sometimes I notice him standing on his toes too. He also doesnt show much interest in pulling up. He crawls really well though and just started sitting up from a crawl. His pedi didn't seem concerned about the standing until his next visit at 12 months.

We just had our 9mo last week and LO is great in height, weight etc. Pedi asked if she was crawling, going from laying down to seated position and pulling up which to all are-no. She sits like a champ when I put her down and she can stand if I help her. She'll stand for a short period, sometimes on her toes, sometimes flat foot. He's having us go to physical therapist just to get evaluated. He said he wasn't too concerned but that it wouldn't hurt to go and they could also help guide us on things to do with her so were scheduled to go next week.

They will recommend the physical therapist in a month if they aren't standing unassisted or if they aren't pulling up? My baby is 11 months and can't stand unassisted. I don't think that's unusual. He didn't start pulling up until around 10 months either.

My pedi suggested this as well last week at our 9m visit. My lo won't put her legs straight if you hold her by her hands or try to stand her. She keeps them in a sitting position. When she does eventually stand she awkwardly spreads her legs wide for balance and looks petrified. Recently we've been trying more and more to get her to try and she has been improving. Pedi said to come back if she isn't showing improvement in 10 weeks. Glad we're not alone, my 3 yr old was cruising by this age!

DD was just starting to pull herself up at her 9 month appt. when she stands, she is mostly on her toes, but will be flatter on her feet at times. she is 10 months now with the sometimes toes and sometimes flat.

i'm friends with podiatrists and they commented on DS and their DD doing more toe walking than they liked, but neither of us ever did PT and both kids are fine and thriving at 4 years old.

Hm, it's hard for us to say since we can't see your DD. There's no timeline for standing (I mean, there's a general time when babies start to pull up/stand, but it's different for everyone) but if your doctor is concerned with the way she's standing or balancing her weight on her feet, I would just go along with his suggestion. I mean, the best thing that could happen is that you go see the PT, and they tell you that she's fine, kwim?

I'm not sure if this is much help, but I will echo some of the other posters.  LO do things at their own rates.  DS is 12 mo. he just started crawling 2 weeks ago.  He just started pulling himself up a week ago.  Sometimes he is on his toes, sometimes flat footed.  He is a different baby than he was 2 weeks ago.  Maybe he will catch up to his peers, maybe it will take him longer. I'm trying not to worry.
