hey ladies!!!
I need an ob/gyn as we're due with our very first little one in September!  Some background on me & what I'm looking for…
I'm teetering on 40 (ugh) too.
A Dr that is in cranberry or wexford would be ideal & if they also have offices in oakland (since i work there) & that would be great too

My next question is - Magee vs Mercy
I always figured i'd deliver at Magee, but a new practice I spoke to (not met with yet) delivers out of Mercy.
What are the big differences & why would i want one over the other ?

Help!
New Mommy to be

Re: Need Ob/GYN & Magee vs Mercy

  • Hello! I see the Women's Associates of Western Pa. They are an all female group and have an office at Magee and in Wexford. I switched to them when I was about 16 weeks because I didn't care for the last practice I was seeing because I felt like it was very impersonal. They are a private practice within Magee so they tend to be less number oriented. Good luck!

  • There is a OBGYN practice that delivers at Mercy and one of the dr's are Dr. Rock. Apparently he is excellent. I wanted to go to them but their offices weren't close to my house. I know they see patients in Cranberry and the South Hills.

I wanted to deliver at Mercy b/c Magee can be craziness at times. You hear good and bad about both. If your high risk I would choose Magee.

I love my doctors but they are in Oakland, Fox Chapel and Monroeville. If your interested my drs name is Dr. Elizabeth Hazel. I like all of the doctors there.

  • I was with Womencare Associates - part of UPMC and they deliver at  Mcgee.  They have offices on Wexford-Bayne Rd and in Passavant.  I had a very comfortable, positive experience with them.  Dr. Rosado and Dr. Baer were my favorites. I had a positive experience at Mcgee, although the rooms were pretty small.
  • Hubby and I are just starting TTC and because of some other health issues I wanted to get setup with an ObGyn before we get pregnant. I just met with Dr. Deitrick (Metropolitan ObGyn) at Mercy and could not have been happier! He thoroughly answered all my questions, made me feel supported, and did not rush at all. First time in a long time I truly felt like a patient and not just a number in a doctor's office. I have family that work in healthcare in town and a lot of the staff go to this practice, which is how I got the name, and they have been extremely pleased.

Growing up in the area I originally thought I was going to go to Magee. There are quite a few great physicians there, but I have heard many stories that make the experience seem so impersonal and unpleasant and that's just not what I am looking for when we do have a baby. Congratulations and good luck!

  • I'm seeing Dr. Garver/Dr. JaJa at Magee Womancare Associates in Sewickley. They also have offices at other locations (And other doctors), including Magee Womens Hospital. I went with them after I had such an amazing experience with the fertility clinic at Magee. My fertility specialist recommended Dr. Jaja, and I couldn't be happier. I know some people say Magee is a "baby factory", but there's a reason for that. They're the place to be, especially if you have complications. My doula and childbirth instructor said they would choose Magee hands down as their number one place to deliver. (And they've had lots of experiences at all the hospitals in the area.) My husband and I went on a hospital tour last month and were very pleased and impressed with the nursing staff and rooms. Hopefully our birthing experience is just as positive when our baby arrives in a couple weeks. Every woman's needs are different, so what works for some may not work for you. If you meet with a doctor/practice and don't feel comfortable, don't hesitate to try someone else. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!   :)
  • Dr joshi at Magee (female) is my obgyn and I loved her. Good experience!!! Congrats on your pregnancy!

  • I saw the teal group at Magee woman care- dr copeley-woods and dr krans were great. However, I did not have a good birth experience at Magee. It would be the place to be though for high risk births.

Hi May, are you talking about Dr. Renu Joshi with women care associates. How is your experience so far. I am in my 28th week and I need to switch my doctor for some reason.

    Thanks
    Kanika
