teacher appreciation

Anyone have any brilliant ideas?  I am the chair of the PSSC at my school (like a pta) and this teacher appreciation is pretty much the only reason the teachers keep this committee around for.  (not really, but it feels that way)

I was thinking of maybe doing something little every day of the week.  Like treats one day, maybe a basket of supplies another day... If you are a teacher, what would you want.  Besides a gift cert for the liquor store. haha.

Re: teacher appreciation

  • There are a few people on the committee who will help, the school provides the funds.  I have to set up a meeting and wanted a few ideas at least to go in with.

  • It's pretty small.  That's a good idea.

  • The masseuse idea is awesome.  That's a winner right there.

  • We get a lot of snacks/goodies for our teacher appreciation week, which is real nice. But I would really appreciate a basket of supplies.  We mostly have to buy our own, so I would love this. A giant basket of Expo markers would be my dream gift!

  • I would love to do something like this, but I don't know what we would do for the gym teacher and music teacher.  They would not need all of these things.image

Depends on how big the school is (how many teachers), but my mom's school hired a masseuse for the day.  During their lunch or free period, the teachers got short chair massages.  They did a bunch of other little things throughout the week, but that's something she still talks about.
We've had this at our school before, and it's definitely the favorite. The local massage school is who they had come in and do it.

Our PTA always did a catered lunch for the teachers from Panera. It was great. The massage idea seems good but I personally wouldn't enjoy that during my work day...makes me super sleepy. Plus, I know that would never be allowed in our buildings...the whole liability thing. If someone had the massage then felt sore or the masseuse touched someone in a way they didn't like..etc. too many variables for problems in my opinion. Instead gift cards to massage places if that's within the budget.

I work in an office, and they brought a masseuse in during our busy season.  We did have to sign a waiver beforehand if we wanted to participate.

  • The masseuse idea is an awesome one. We had one scheduled for the fall, but I was on ML. Food is always a great thing also. Our PTA does a breakfast every year and it is packed.
  • Since it is more than likely while school is in session, on school grounds, a wet open bar is probably out of the question. Is there a way to have a lunch or breakfast catered? Our superintendents do this every year, and it is pretty awesome.

  • I'm not a teacher but I can tell you a few things our school did during teacher appreciation week.  They did something everyday as well, though honestly I can't remember everything they did.  One day they asked parents to volunteer to bring in homemade sweets to have in the teacher lounge.  Another day they asked for volunteers to bring in breakfast foods and invited the teachers in a little early for a breakfast.  One day they asked students to dress up in honor of the teachers (my sons INSISTED on wearing a suit and tie to school that day, so cute!)  They also had each class make their teacher a card...they did this when the teacher was out of the classroom for meetings or something and the assistant teacher and classroom volunteer helped them.
