Visual diagram of vaginal birth

I wanted to share this diagram I found via PaxBaby.com's FB page. It is a really interesting visual. Here's the description she added with it:

"On the left you see a fully closed and thick cervix with mucus plug - prior to the onset labor. On the right you see a fully effaced and dilated cervix in labor. The image on the right also illustrates how contractions cause the upper part of the uterus (fundus) to tighten and thicken while the cervix and lower portion of the uterus stretch and relax, helping the baby pass from inside the uterus and into the birth canal for delivery.""

For all my bitching and complaining about how I do not care for being pregnant, this sorta makes me sit back and think about how awesome the female body is.

Pretty amazing when you think about it. But looking at what my body has to do, I'm imagining it instead with a healthy but very small baby. That will slide right out ;-)
