I love McKenna, and even more so if it fits with your family history!
Keep in mind this is coming from someone who named her kid after a town in Ireland in part due to my Irish roots, but I don't think using a random "Mc" name honors "family" history if it's not a family name. That's like saying I'm going to name a kid Smith (not a name of any significance to my family) to honor my American heritage.
There's a bunch of McKenna haters, but I really like it! :-) It could be because I strongly dislike Julia... past experiences with people named Julia... sorry, they ruined the name for me!

I have a McMaiden name, that doesn't qualify me to use some random McName. Unless McKenna is an actual family name I would skip it.
