~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~

Welcome! This is a check-in for moms who are/were on a dairy free and/or soy free diet due to their LO's intolerance. The check-ins will be posted every Monday morning on the Breastfeeding board and XP'd to the Food Allergy board. If you'd like to join the group, just post an intro here and dive in! To check out the archive of our previous check-ins, please see the MSPI Moms Blog.

1. How are you doing? How is your LO doing?

2. Are you currently or planning on extended breastfeeding? Does/did LOs MSPI factor into your decision?

3. Please share your current favorite MSPI-friendly snack!

4. Anything else you'd like to share today?

Re: ~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~

  • 1. Struggling to figure out how to meal plan and make a grocery budget as we've just been diagnosed. DS seems to be getting a bit better after a week and a half of removing obvious dairy and 5 days of removing all dairy and soy.

    2. Still planning to EBF until sometime between 2 and 3.

    3. I've been snacking on frosted mini wheats and homemade trail mix.

It's hard at first but it will get easier. You can look through our blog archives for recipe ideas (www.mspimoms.blogspot.com), and MSPI Mama has a lot of good recipes on her blog and Pinterest board.
  • 1. How are you doing? How is your LO doing? Good, although I think I'm catching DS's cold. This one was pretty rough so I didn't try giving him any dairy this weekend.

    2. Are you currently or planning on extended breastfeeding? Does/did LOs MSPI factor into your decision? I am (obviously) and I would be if he weren't MSPI, but I would have probably given up pumping by now, but I feel like he wouldn't get enough to eat during the day if I didn't send a bottle my milk with him.

    3. Please share your current favorite MSPI-friendly snack! I like making a batch of vegan muffins (with rice milk) and freezing them so I can munch on them throughout the week. Here's a recipe I want to try next: https://yesiwantcake.com/2011/08/17/packed-zucchini-muffins/

    4. Anything else you'd like to share today?

  • 1) Good and Good :)
    2) Before DS was even born my goal was to make it to two.  Now being a MSPI mama I feel like if DS doesn't get beyond this by then I might go longer.  We do want another baby though, so that might factor into how long I nurse since I know with DD my supply totally tanked at 10w pregnant, luckily she was already 20 months by then and did not have MSPI.  So I guess undecided.
    3) Lara Bars, I have the Peanut Butter Cookie one every day.
    4) Every time DS has a well check-up the pedi says how amazing it is that I'm still BFing, just wanted to share that since everyone is doing an amazing job!

    2. Are you currently or planning on extended breastfeeding? Does/did LOs MSPI factor into your decision? I was planning on going a year but with this MPI I'm going to go 6 months and take it month by month basis. At home everything is fine but I'm getting no support from family and friends... they all think I'm just being a paranoid FTM.

    3. Please share your current favorite MSPI-friendly snack! It's been super crazy busy here (my brother got married this weekend) so I haven't had a chance to play with any recipes.

    4. Anything else you'd like to share today? Snagged a pic of J's face with a MPI breakout, incase anyone reading is curious. It looks like baby acne but it has a direct correlation with my dairy intake.

  • 1. How are you doing? How is your LO doing?
I'm doing well. Getting used to not eating dairy and being very conscious of soy, which is tough, because we eat lots of Asian food. DS is doing better. Much less spit up and fussiness.

    2. Are you currently or planning on extended breastfeeding? Does/did LOs MSPI factor into your decision?
I haven't thought that far ahead yet. If he's still MSPI at a year, that may make me want to do EBF. I'll still need to alter our menu for him (my previous 2 ate what we ate at a year), and he'd still need milk. If he's grown out of it by a year, then it's no issue. So I guess I will EBF regardless.

    3. Please share your current favorite MSPI-friendly snack!
Utz Honey Wheat Pretzel Braids. They're addicting.

4.Anything else you'd like to share today?
We visited my sister last week and DS did so good. I can't figure out what I wasn't eating that I normally do. I am leery of dining out/ take out, because even with the allergen info, I hate not having control.
My list of foods to avoid now includes caffeine, carbonation, cucumbers, citrus, and corn on top of M and S.

  • Hi I've been lurking and just made an account. Quick intro- 3 yr old DS that was nursed until 27 months, no intolerances. 12 month old DD who is MPI. 1. We are both doing great. Not thinking about doing a trail anytime soon since she has had a reaction to a stray goldfish at playgroup :( 2. I will let DD self wean like I did with DS. MPI just makes that more important to me since I know my milk is safe for her. 3. Does Almond Breeze Iced Coffee count? 4. I've learned a lot from you guys while lurking and I'm glad I am finally jumping in :)
    Welcome, nice to have you!

Sweet little face. That's what happens to my DS's face when I give him something that doesn't agree with him (coconut, chickpeas, buckwheat, citrus, peppers...). I never saw that when I ate dairy though. Thanks for sharing!
  • 1. We are both good.
    2. I am extended bfing (ds is 18 months). My main reason is the bonding, but MSPI is an added reason.
    3. Amy's vegan chocolate cake from the frozen food aisle and frozen strawberries not totally defrosted.
    4. I am researching if I should get allergy testing when DS turns 2 since the dairy trial went badly.

Thats exactly how my LOs face looked when she was little and the docs kept telling me it was just baby acne or a rash and tried to give me steroid cream...wish they wouldve tried to find the reason and not just cover it up. Had to research my self and figure out mspi. Thanks for sharing the pic, I am sure that will help many people when they are un sure :)

  • Just found this group, hello!

    1. How are you doing? I'm ok, still getting used to the new diet. I've been dairy/soy free for 5 weeks now. Still allowing myself soy oil since some MSPI can handle it, but may have to cut that out soon depending.

How is your LO doing? Still traces of blood in her diaper. Currently battling reflux, not sure if it's related or not. Probably is. Zantac didn't help, we're on day 1 of Prilosec.

    2. Are you currently or planning on extended breastfeeding? Does/did LOs MSPI factor into your decision?

Currently BF and supplementing with Nutramigen as my supply is low. Trying everything I can think of to increase supply. Will continue BF as long as I can, but if supply doesn't increase may stop.

    3. Please share your current favorite MSPI-friendly snack!

Cashews, Almond Breeze Iced Mocha, lactation cookies modified - substitute butter for Earth Balance, or Earth Balance Soy Free if avoiding soy oil & Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips. Add raisins optional  https://www.milkinmamas.com/lactation-cookie-recipe/

    4. Anything else you'd like to share today?

I miss pizza so much I could cry. Tried to make my own using Daiya moz "cheese" & it was freaking disgusting IMO. Also I've just started a D/S free recipe board on Pinterest, if you'd like to follow https://pinterest.com/girlevolving/dairy-soy-free-recipesresources/
